WHERE YOU WILL STAY IN THAILAND
The name Bangkok, used commonly by foreigners, is, according to one interpretation, derived from a name that dates to the time before the city was built—the village or district (bang) of wild plums (makok). The boat-filled Chao Phraya River in the capital feeds its network of canals, flowing past the Rattanakosin royal district, home to opulent Grand Palace and its sacred Wat Phra Kaew Temple. Nearby is Wat Pho Temple with an enormous reclining Buddha and, on the opposite shore, Wat Arun Temple with its steep steps and Khmer-style spire. Many say that Bangkok is a city all should witness with its exciting fast paced way of life.
Bangkok's sights, attractions, and city life appeal to diverse groups of tourists. Royal palaces and temples as well as museums constitute its major historical and cultural tourist attractions. Shopping and dining experiences offer a range of choices and prices. The city is also famous for its nightlife, and this is where 99% of all youngsters will find themselves at least once when in Bangkok.
Thailand's climate is subtropical, and the weather in Thailand leads to hot, humid conditions all year round. In summer, temperatures in Bangkok can reach 40 degrees during the day and 50 degrees at night. The most famous food in Bangkok includes the Deep-Fried Omelette at Jay Fai, Pad Thai at Thip Samai, Mamma Tom Yum Seafood at Jae Oh Chula, Tom Yum Lobster at Pe Aor and Crispy Pork at Kuayjup Mr. Jo. Food here is a way of life and visitors are swept away with the varied and delicious dishes on offer any time of the year.
Phuket is the largest island in Thailand. It is in the Andaman Sea in southern Thailand. Phuket is among the world’s finest beach destinations, with fine white sands, nodding palm trees, glittering seas and lively towns. It has something for a wide array of tastes and budgets, with hundreds of hotels to choose from, an eclectic choice of dining and plenty of partying options. Aside from visiting the fantastic attractions of Thailand’s biggest island, you can take an exhilarating speedboat trip to the many nearby tropical islands, including the famous Koh Phi Phi, or enjoy a serene cruise around the mystical Phang Nga Bay. Phuket is blessed with more than 30 amazing beaches to choose from. Patong Beach, Kata, Karon and Kamala have always been the most popular, but the north of the island reveals some hidden gems for travellers searching for a more romantic atmosphere.
If you love food, you will love Phuket. There are restaurants to suit every taste, serving a huge selection of western and Asian food. The variety of cuisine and dining experiences is one of the major attractions of the island. You can eat breakfast at your hotel, lunch at a local noodle stall, and have dinner with fine wines in a sophisticated air-conditioned restaurant. While Thai food is world-renowned for its wonderful flavours and fresh ingredients, Phuket is especially famous for its seafood.
